The Internal Medicine Service at Crown Veterinary Specialists is dedicated to diagnosing, managing and treating serious and chronic health problems associated with the internal organ systems. These organ systems include the gastrointestinal tract, liver, kidneys, endocrine glands, and lungs. Oftentimes, these health problems are complicated and affect multiple systems.

In order to get a complete picture of your pet’s health, our board-certified internist will combine a physical exam with a thorough review of your pet’s health history, lab tests and diagnostic imaging results. To provide optimal care, our internist can consult and collaborate with other specialists within our multi-disciplinary hospital. We will work closely with you and your primary care veterinarian to determine the cause of your pet’s illness and recommend the best treatment options.

If specialized testing is needed, it can be performed at our state-of-the-art animal hospital and can include:

  • Blood Tests
  • Ultrasound
  • Endoscopy
  • CT Scans
  • Flouroscopy
  • Echocardiography
  • Colonoscopy
  • Bronchoscopy
  • Radiography
  • Bone marrow aspirates

It is important to understand that there is no one perfect testing regimen for every patient, and we provide highly personalized patient care for the best outcomes.  Once a diagnosis has been made, a treatment plan will be discussed that works for both you and your pet.  This may include surgery, medications, hospitalization, or even referral to other specialists for more targeted therapy.  Most of our internal medicine patients have chronic illnesses, but by working together, we can improve the quality of their lives for as long as possible.

Commonly referred illness include:

  • Diabetes mellitus
