What to Expect

Acupuncture treatments typically take 10 to 30 minutes per session.

Weekly treatments are generally prescribed, but can be safely be performed daily for severe conditions such as acute paralysis that can result from disk disease.

Acupuncture treatments are continuous until maintenance is achieved; for example, when the patient is no longer experiencing pain and has regained complete function. Achieving complete function usually takes six treatments.

For cancer pain, treatments may be ongoing for as long as the patient requires acupuncture’s analgesic and anti-nausea effects.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Placement of acupuncture needles is often painless, but can evoke a feeling of heaviness, or a slight cramp. Occasionally, placement may elicit a stronger response/reaction, however, readjustment of the needle often relieves any discomfort felt by your pet.
Most patients are extremely tolerant of acupuncture. Some patients are nervous for the first few sessions but often become more relaxed as they associate acupuncture with feeling better. Occasionally a pet will not tolerate acupuncture needle placement. In this case, acupressure or stimulation of acupuncture points with massage may be utilized.
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Your pet is examined by a veterinary dermatologist who reviews medical history, assesses the skin and ears, and outlines diagnostic next steps. Depending on findings, the plan may include allergy testing, cytology, cultures, or a skin biopsy if needed for a precise diagnosis.
We treat a wide range of dermatologic conditions including allergies, itching, ear infections, hot spots, rashes, hair loss, and bacterial or fungal skin infections. Each case is managed with targeted treatment rather than trial-and-error products.
Allergy testing helps identify triggers such as environmental allergens, yeast, or bacteria. Results guide a personalized treatment plan that may include topical therapy, oral medication, ear treatment, or immunotherapy depending on your pet’s needs.
A biopsy may be recommended when lesions are atypical, unresponsive to initial treatment, or if cancer or immune-mediated disease is suspected. It helps confirm the diagnosis and direct effective therapy.
Yes. Lesions are evaluated during the consultation, and if removal is appropriate, the procedure can be performed by the dermatology team or coordinated with a surgical specialist for safety and precision.
After diagnostics, the doctor will begin a treatment plan tailored to your pet’s needs. This often includes medicated cleansers, ear care, anti-itch relief, and infection control while longer-term allergy management solutions are implemented.
Yes. We provide dermatology care for both dogs and cats, with species-specific testing and treatment protocols to ensure safe and effective results.
Yes. Our specialty hospital includes a dedicated pet dermatology department offering advanced skin care and allergy management alongside other veterinary specialties for comprehensive treatment and convenient follow-ups.
When appropriate, our dermatology team can incorporate nutrition guidance and other supportive therapies to complement medical treatment. Evidence-based veterinary care remains the foundation of every plan.
Improvement varies by condition. Many infections respond within days once treatment begins, while allergy management usually improves gradually over several weeks as triggers are controlled and skin heals. Recheck visits help fine-tune treatment and prevent recurrence.
Please bring a list of your pet’s current medications, shampoos, and ear products, along with prior veterinary records, lab results, and recent photos of flare-ups if available. This information helps the doctor build an effective treatment plan from the first visit.
During the consultation, your pet is examined by a veterinary cardiologist who reviews medical history, listens for murmurs or rhythm changes, and may recommend diagnostic tests such as an ECG/EKG, chest radiographs, blood pressure assessment, or a veterinary echocardiogram (cardiac ultrasound). These tests help establish a clear and personalized plan for your pet’s heart care.
A heart murmur is first detected by listening with a stethoscope, then confirmed with imaging. An echocardiogram is typically used to identify the cause and severity, along with ECG or Holter monitoring for rhythm evaluation. These diagnostics guide accurate diagnosis and long-term management of heart disease in pets.
Yes. We offer comprehensive cardiology care for both dogs and cats, including ECG testing (6- and 12-lead), echocardiography, chest radiographs, cardiac biomarker testing, and ambulatory ECG monitoring (Holter).
A veterinary echocardiogram is an ultrasound of the heart that shows chamber size, valve function, and blood flow. It helps determine the cause of murmurs, identify cardiomyopathy or valve disease, and guide treatment and activity recommendations.
Monitoring may include in-hospital ECG, blood pressure checks for hypertension management, and take-home Holter monitoring to assess heart rhythm during regular activity.
We manage conditions such as mitral valve disease, dilated and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, congenital defects, arrhythmias, pericardial disease, and hypertension. Each care plan is customized with diagnostics, medication management, and follow-up evaluations.
Yes. When necessary, we perform procedures such as pericardiocentesis to remove fluid around the heart, and thoracocentesis or abdominocentesis to improve comfort and assist with diagnosis.
Yes. If surgery or interventional cardiology is indicated, our team coordinates with board-certified surgeons to review options and timing. Many heart conditions can be managed medically, but surgical intervention is available when required.
Warning signs include coughing, shortness of breath, fainting, exercise intolerance, blue-tinged gums, a distended abdomen, or sudden weakness. If you notice any of these symptoms, schedule a veterinary cardiology appointment immediately.
Follow-up schedules vary depending on the condition and treatment plan. Most pets are re-evaluated every three to six months, or sooner after medication changes. Rechecks may include ECG, blood pressure measurement, and echocardiography.
Yes. We work closely with your primary veterinarian to ensure seamless communication and continuity of care. The cardiology team provides specialized diagnostics and recommendations while your regular veterinarian oversees daily health management.
Yes. We offer second-opinion evaluations for newly detected murmurs and breed certification exams for congenital heart conditions.
