Oncology Services Expanded

Now Offering Expanded Oncology Services

Crown Veterinary Specialists is pleased to announce expanded oncology services to better serve you and your pets. Dr. M.J. Hamilton, DVM, DACVIM, is expanding his hours to full-time with weekend availability upon your veterinarian’s referral at our conveniently located, state-of-the-art hospital in Lebanon, New Jersey.

At Crown Veterinary Specialists, your pet will receive the latest treatment therapies available in a caring, supportive and comfortable environment. Dr. Hamilton, a board-certified oncologist, works closely with pet owners and their primary care veterinarians to guide them through the various treatment options to determine what is best for their animal companion and family.

Since every pet is unique, and each cancer and / or tumor is treated differently, our approach to personalized care begins with an in-depth consultation where prognosis, treatment, or further evaluation is considered. After carefully evaluating your pet’s health history and discussing the options, your animal companion will move forward with a customized treatment regimen.

The most common treatment options for pets with cancer are: surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Since Crown is a full-service specialty hospital, patients receiving chemotherapy have the support of a coordinated team of doctors including board-certified surgeons—when surgery is part of the treatment protocol.

MJ Hamilton 2M.J. Hamilton, DVM, DACVIM (Onco)

Dr. Hamilton is a skilled medical oncologist dedicated to helping advance the field of veterinary oncology with novel treatment options and personalized care for his patients. He is a firm believer that cancer in small animals is treatable and not necessarily a terminal diagnosis.  Dr. Hamilton manages patients through their cancer journey, from the moment the cancer is detected through treatment and post-treatment monitoring.

Avidly engaged in research, Dr. Hamilton has conducted studies on lymphoma in the Dogue de Bordeaux breed, reducing stress levels in dogs and, more recently, investigating owner concerns and doctor responsiveness with regard to pets undergoing chemotherapy. He is the recipient of the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health "Alternatives in Animal Testing" award and was honored with a Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation "Frontiers in Veterinary Medicine" summer fellowship grant. He remains actively engaged in the community and serves on the Board of Directors for Pawstrong Animal Cancer Foundation and participates in several professional societies.

Dr. Hamilton earned his undergraduate and doctorate of veterinary medicine at Colorado State University and completed a medical oncology residency at Michigan State University.
